Oil Painting Pad Acrylic Paints Oil Pastel Paper
Product Introduction
Features of 300gsm Oil Painting Paper & Oil Pastel Paper
300gsm oil painting paper and oil pastel paper are heavy-duty, thickened creative carriers specially designed for oil-based painting media. Their core advantage lies in the sturdy, rigid texture and oil-adaptive surface treatment, which can not only satisfy oil painting techniques such as glazing, thin layering and impasto application, but also support oil pastel techniques like color stacking, blending and scraping. Suitable for professional creation, classroom practice and outdoor sketching, they strike a perfect balance between practicality and cost-effectiveness.
In terms of basic paper characteristics, the 300gsm high weight gives them far superior toughness and anti-deformation ability compared with ordinary drawing paper. With a single-sheet thickness of about 0.35-0.4mm, the paper is compact and resistant to damage. Even after repeated painting, palette knife scraping and pressing, it will not easily wrinkle or tear. Meanwhile, it has a low water absorption expansion rate, so it won’t warp or deform after drying, ensuring the long-term integrity of artworks. Both types of paper are made of acid-free wood pulp or cotton pulp with moderate pH value, which is not prone to yellowing and aging, meeting the requirements for long-term artwork preservation. In addition, the paper has uniform density, with no impurities or pinholes on the surface, providing a stable base for the even adhesion of pigments.
The targeted design of oil painting paper is reflected in its surface coating and texture. Most of them are treated with matte acrylic gesso coating. The thin yet highly adhesive coating can reduce the paper’s oil absorption rate, preventing pigments from drying too quickly, while retaining moderate porosity to ensure the paint layer bonds firmly to the paper without peeling off. Its surface texture is divided into two types: fine texture and medium texture. Fine texture is suitable for delicate portrait depiction and detailed rendering, enabling natural transition of brushstrokes; medium texture is ideal for texture expression of landscapes, still lifes and other themes, enhancing the three-dimensionality and texture of the painting. Moreover, oil painting paper can be used directly without additional priming, making it suitable for quick sketching and technique practice, and it offers much higher cost-effectiveness than traditional canvas.
The core feature of oil pastel paper is its high-density, low-adsorption surface treatment. The paper undergoes calendering, resulting in a smooth but non-slip surface. It allows oil pastel colors to adhere smoothly, reducing chipping, while supporting multiple layers of color stacking, blending and scraping techniques. After color stacking, the color saturation remains high, avoiding dull or muddy effects. Some high-end oil pastel papers are also added with anti-slip coating to further improve the adhesion fastness of pigments, and prevent oil from oil pastels from penetrating to the back of the paper and causing contamination. Most of its surfaces are fine and flat, and there are also a few styles with slight graininess, which can create unique blank space and texture effects with scraping tools, suitable for creative illustration, decorative painting and other creative needs.
Both types of paper are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from regular practice sizes like A4 and A3 to large-format creation sizes like 4K and 8K. They are mostly sold in loose sheets or coil-bound albums. Coil-bound albums can be laid flat at 360°, facilitating four-sided creation, while loose sheets are suitable for cutting and framing. Compared with canvas and special oil pastel books, 300gsm oil painting paper and oil pastel paper are more affordable, making them ideal choices for students, art enthusiasts and professional artists for daily practice and technique experimentation. They can reduce creation costs while ensuring the presentation effect of artworks.
