100% Cotton Watercolor Paper Pad

Material: Primarily divided into three types:

Cotton Paper: The premium choice. Made from 100% cotton fibers, it has excellent absorbency and color rendering. It can withstand repeated corrections, scraping, and glazing, with relatively stable behavior between wet and dry states. Ideal for serious and complex works.

Wood Pulp Paper: Common and economical. It has a smooth, bright white surface and weaker absorbency, causing water to sit on the surface longer, which easily creates beautiful "blooms" and "washes." Suitable for fresh, bright styles, but less forgiving for corrections.

Mixed Pulp Paper: A balance between the two, combining the absorbency of cotton with the affordability of wood pulp. A great compromise.

Weight (GSM): Refers to grams per square meter (g/m²). This is a key indicator of paper thickness and resistance to buckling.

300 g/m² and above: Heavyweight paper. Barely buckles when wet, can often be painted on directly without stretching. Suitable for techniques using lots of water and multiple layers.

Around 200 g/m²: Medium weight paper. May require light stretching if using moderate water, otherwise it will buckle slightly. Good for practice and small works.

Below 190 g/m²: Lightweight paper. Buckles severely when wet and must be stretched onto a board. Mostly used for sketching and practice.

Rough: Has the most pronounced texture. Pigment settles into the grooves, creating rich textural effects. Suitable for bold, expressive landscapes or textural subjects.

Cold Press (CP) / Medium (Not): The most versatile and popular texture. Offers some texture while allowing for sufficient detail. Suitable for most subjects.

Hot Press (HP) / Smooth: Very smooth surface. Provides the most vibrant color representation and is excellent for detail, illustration, architectural subjects, and smooth washes in wet-on-wet techniques.

Perfect Bound / Glued Binding: Most common, lies flat easily, but pages may not tear out cleanly.

Stitched Binding: More durable, lies completely flat, suitable for double-page spreads.

Spiral / Wire-O Bound: Extremely convenient for flipping pages and use, but the spiral can sometimes get in the way.

Block / Gummed Pad: Bound on all four sides with glue. Requires no stretching while painting; finished paintings are cut out with a blade, resulting in a flat sheet. Very convenient for plein air (outdoor) painting.

Available from pocket-sized portable pads to full-sheet large pads. Square and rectangular pads are most common, with certain aspect ratios (e.g., 16:9) being suitable for landscapes.
